Case Study: Inteligro -
Empowering Agricultural Intelligence

Overview

Intellegro delivers an integrated multi-platform solution designed to support South Africa’s agricultural ecosystem—from farmers and crop advisors to technical specialists. The platform streamlines operations, enhances collaboration, and digitises essential workflows, transforming the way agricultural professionals manage data, make decisions, and grow their businesses.

Problem Statement

Agricultural professionals traditionally rely on paper-based systems and in-person consultations. These analogue methods, while relationship-driven, create bottlenecks in data entry, management, and operational efficiency—especially when working across multiple farms, teams, and crop cycles.

The challenge was to digitise and unify critical workflows without disrupting the trust-based dynamics between crop advisors and growers.

Objective

Build three synchronised platforms for Farmers, Crop Advisors, and Technical Staff

  • Deliver a seamless user experience that encourages adoption of digital tools

  • Ensure consistent data capture and syncing across all roles and systems

  • Simplify complex agricultural processes without losing nuance or control

Design Challenges

The Intellegro system needed to balance robust agricultural functionality with a highly intuitive interface. Key challenges included:

  • Supporting accurate data entry across multiple user types

  • Creating clear, consistent terminology across diverse workflows

  • Enabling visibility and accessibility without overwhelming users

  • Providing efficient navigation for large data sets and complex task flows

Pain Points

Lengthy Paper-Based Systems

  • Challenge: Manual workflows slowed down operations and lacked traceability.

  • Solution: Digitised core processes (field logs, recommendations, quotes, and crop data) into a centralised, cloud-accessible platform.

  • Result: Increased efficiency, better data retention, and enhanced collaboration.

Key Features

Multi-User Platform

  • Role-specific access for Growers, Crop Advisors, and Technical Admins

  • Unified system to support end-to-end crop management

  • Seamless data syncing across platforms

Capturing and Sharing Large Data Sets

  • Challenge: Managing soil samples, crop details, and product usage required extensive input, often leading to inconsistencies.

  • Solution: Introduced guided data entry with dropdowns, preselected values, and inline contextual help.

  • Result: Reduced errors and improved data quality across all three user groups.

Intelligent Forms and Data Validation

  • Guided product selection and dosage validation

  • Contextual feedback for incorrect entries

  • Step-by-step task completion with clear visual progress

Integrated Recommendations & Reporting

  • Build and manage recommendations per crop, per block

  • Generate dynamic quotes, reports, and field logs

  • Access regulatory-compliant documentation and product libraries

Implementation Strategy

Information Architecture

We restructured the existing content and workflows into intuitive user journeys.

  • Defined clear task flows by user role

  • Used consistent terminology for crops, blocks, users, and applications

  • Implemented breadcrumb navigation and progress tracking

User Experience Enhancements

  • Inline tooltips and field-level validation to prevent data errors

  • Role-based dashboards for at-a-glance task management

  • Single sign-on and seamless platform switching for admins

  • Onboarding via email with role-specific access provisioning

Design System Development

To maintain consistency and scalability, Inteligro has developed a standardised design system that includes:

  • A cohesive color palette

  • A structured typography hierarchy.

  • UI/UX elements that prioritize ease of navigation and accessibility.

  • A responsive interface adaptable across multiple devices.

Results and Impact

The redesigned Intellegro platform significantly improved the digital transformation of agricultural workflows:

  • Faster adoption of digital tools among legacy users

  • Higher data integrity across user roles and platforms

  • Increased visibility for technical teams and administrators

  • Better decision-making through unified, accessible data
